Nick is playing DIY golf in his office – look, he's still a Professor! – when Claudia arrives to not!ask him about Helen. She's a little confused now, since Helen saved her life; she isn't quite sure what to think. Nick agrees that Helen is hard to read at the best of times.
Claudia tells him that kissing on the job could be considered sexual harassment. Nick is not concerned.

Something has come through the Forest of Dean Anomaly. Nick and the team arrive, but there's no trace of whatever it was.
Something attacks the lion enclosure at the Wellington Zoo.
Abby is attempting to teach Connor how to flirt.

"You look nice."
"Make it more personal."
"I personally feel you look nice."
He does pretty well, until he starts talking comic books. He also drops anvils about how he'd like to be going out with Abby now, mkay? She is distracted by a call from the zoo – look, she still works for the zoo! – and leaves him.
Claudia defends Nick to Lester, who is not impressed.
Stephen is on campus – look, he still works at the university! – when he is accosted by Helen.

"All this urban living's made human beings such lazy animals. Second-rate hearing, no sense of smell, no worthwhile instincts."
"Well, man has no predators. We have nothing to be afraid of except each other."
"Well, that used to be the case, but times are changing, aren't they, Stephen?"
Whatever, Helen, he totally knew you were there. Although he did turn towards you. I’m not sure how you got behind him like that.
Abby and Connor are investigating the lion enclosure. Why did the zoo call her in? Even if she still works for the zoo, she's lizards, not mammals, and even if she's mammals, why did they call her to an attacked enclosure? They don't know what she's doing, presumably, so they've no real reason to think she can help.
Connor finds some blood on the ground and takes a swab for later analysis. He also teases Abby until she shoves him. It’s a cute moment; he’s trying so hard to cheer her up.
Also, I love how he recovers his balance without putting a hand down. ALP, you rock.

Stephen has brought Helen to a cafe on campus. Helen wants to set up a meeting with Nick and Lester. She also kisses Stephen and implies that he's stupid. Not cool.

Claudia has nightmares about being eaten by Gorgonopsids.

Abby is being watched as she feeds elephants. So is her boss. He manages not to notice the huge and very obvious Creature trailing him through the zoo, and by ‘trailing’ I mean ‘maybe five feet behind him and making mini earthquakes every time it steps.’

At Home Office, Connor tells Abby that the blood results came back mostly-lion, partly-bat. Also, there's some funky DNA the lab had never seen before. Let's hope all the lab techs signed their Official Secrets Acts, hmm? Also, Abby's boss has gone missing.
Lester agrees to meet Helen after accusing Nick of being in cahoots with her.
The next morning Helen meets Lester, Claudia, Stephen and Nick in the park to tell them they have an incursion. She says the Creature has come from the future.
At the zoo Abby is still (again?) being watched. Why does this thing keep coming back to the zoo?
Helen says that the Creature came through an Anomaly from the future into the Permian, and then into the present. It's fast, it's clever, and it's almost impossible to see. She then sashays back to Nick's house for the night.
Nick doesn't buy her bit about just wanting to help. She agrees that her being here is really an accident - the Creature chased her through the Permian and this was her only escape. She led the Creature here.
At Nick's office Connor tells Stephen about the bat blood. Stephen realises the Creature is using the zoo as a hunting ground and heads out to find Abby.
Abby is in an underground area, watching sea lions through a view port. Stephen jumps her when she turns around and the pair awkwardly flirt for a moment
"You came on your own, just because you were worried about me?"
"Well, you and the, uh, sea lions. I'd hate it if anything happened to them."
before Stephen shoves her into the wall, one hand over her mouth.

The Creature almost attacks them, but is distracted by either the sea lions or the arrival of Ryan and his men.
How did Stephen get into the zoo? It’s after hours, surely? There’s certainly no one else around.
Claudia thanks Helen for saving her life. Helen asks what the deal is with her and Nick. According to Helen, Claudia is exactly the kind of person Nick usually falls for. This is probably not reassuring to Claudia, considering the last person Nick fell for.
Nick and the others, with dogs, are searching the woods. Nick gives Ryan the shoot-to-kill order -"Shoot to kill, that makes a refreshing change. I was beginning to feel like a social worker." The dogs start barking and one of the soldiers is attacked while the others shine torches and point guns.

Connor figures out that the Creature is using sonar to find them. Nick sends him to get an oscilloscope to upset the sonar. Connor climbs into the car to get it but the Creature attacks. It almost eats Connor,

but is distracted by first Abby, then Stephen. Stephen shoots but misses and the Creature runs away.
I’d love to know how Connor breaks out of the car like that – he did lock the doors, after all. Also, Abby, stop throwing yourself on Stephen at every possible opportunity.

Nick suggests that Connor, who is quite shaken, should go home, but Connor refuses – “Han Solo, he wouldn’t give up before the job’s done, would he?”
“I always saw you more as R2-D2 myself, but I take your point.”

Nick. That is not kind.
Connor thanks Abby for saving his life. She brushes it off – “You haven’t paid this month’s rent yet.” Does that mean she’s given up on getting rid of him, then?
The group are searching a series of sheds that appear to be in the middle of a forest. The dogs and oscilloscope agree that something is nearby. Helen finds a box of baby Creatures.

The parent Creature attacks. Nick snatches one of the babies and runs to another shed. When the Creature follows him he shoots out the glass roof to confuse the Creature’s sonar and then kills it.
At Home Office, Nick and Helen lay out their plan. They want to take the baby Creatures through the Permian Anomaly to find the future Anomaly, kill them, and set up a permanent watch post to make sure nothing else comes through.
This is a BAD PLAN. What happens if the Permian Anomaly closes? Your soldiers get trapped trying to fight off Gorgonopsids, that’s what.
Lester, though, agrees. If he’d seen Helen’s smug little grin, maybe he wouldn’t have.

Helen attempts to seduce Nick, who is unmoved. Burn.

Claudia asks Nick not to go – “I think this is a mistake. I’ve got a really bad feeling about this.”
“It’s going to be fine. I’ll see you soon.”
He starts to leave. Claudia runs after him and kisses him. Most everyone politely ignores them, apart from Lester – “Well that wasn’t very professional.”
“Stuff professionalism.”

Helen looks at Stephen, who looks back. Abby sees the looks and is suspicious.

Nick, Helen, Ryan and two of his men go through the Anomaly.
The lab calls Connor, for some reason, to report on the autopsy of the Creature. It was a male. Stephen isn’t happy, because that likely means there’s another, female Creature around somewhere.
And there is. It sneaks through the Anomaly unseen while the highly trained, Special Forces soldiers – do nothing, apparently.
In the Permian, Nick watches the soldiers set up camp and Helen pose for photos before realising “The camp. It’s the camp we saw the first time. We made it.”
Ryan protests that that camp was years old, but Nick tells him they’ve come back years before the first time. Which I don’t understand. I thought the Forest of Dean Anomaly was permanently open in 2008. How can it have changed time zones on the other end? Nick opens the supply box and picks up a Yorkie to prove his point.

The adult Creature attacks. It kills one of the soldiers and frees its babies. Ryan shoots at it without actually achieving anything. Just when everything looks like going belly-up a Gorgonopsid arrives, kicking ass. It kills the babies, knocks out the adult and drags it away to eat.

Ryan has been injured. Nick attempts first aid, sees it’s useless and holds his hand.
“The first time we came here, that body we found, that was me, wasn’t it? I was looking at myself.”
Helen confirms that the young Creatures are dead and helps Nick bury Ryan. That leads to disquieting thoughts about why the body was out in the open in the pilot...
Helen suggests going to look for the future Anomaly. Nick shuts her down and they head back for the Forest of Dean.
As they leave two baby Creatures crawl away.
In the Forest of Dean Nick tells Lester that no one can go through the Anomaly no matter what. Helen blithely tells him she’ll be going – and she wants Stephen to go with her. After all, they had so much fun back before she disappeared, when they were – oh, whoops. Stephen hadn’t confessed that.

I love Lester right here. First he looks really uncomfortable, then he realises that looks human, so he has to disguise it.
“What an extremely awkward moment.”
Stephen rejects her. Nick rejects him. Helen heads back through the Anomaly and no one bothers to try to stop her.
Nick looks around and asks where Claudia is. No one knows what he’s talking about. Nick looks back at the Anomaly, realising too late that something has changed.

“Oh god...oh my god!”
