This is the guide for Earth 2. The series ran from 1994 to 1995.

The Universe

In 2192 pretty much everyone is living on giant space stations in orbit around Earth, which is now toxic. The perfectly sterile conditions on the stations have birthed a new disease, the Syndrome. The Syndrome is not contagious; children are born with it. They live weakened lives and die before their ninth birthday. There is no cure.

Devon Adair's son, Uly, has the Syndrome. He is eight years old.

Devon is one of the First Family, the creators of the stations. She is rich and powerful. She uses this power and wealth to fund a colonisation attempt. The main ship is loaded with 248 Syndrome children and their familes and medical staff. Devon, Uli and a small group take a second ship that will land on G889 two years ahead of the main ship, enough time to set up the colony and have things ready for the main ship.

At least, that's the plan...

Being a science fiction series, there was a certain amount of lingo used by the characters.

They communicate on Gear, headbands that fit over their heads with an eyepeice that can be pulled forward or left off. If it's turned away, whoever's on the other end can see what's around. Adding a second eyepiece lets the user play Virtual Reality programs. Yale uses these for education, while the children use it for games.

The three vehicles used by the group are the Transrover, a huge Hummer type vehicle that carries most of the supplies; the Dune Rail, a small yellow two seater not unlike a Dune Buggy; and the ATV, a one-man red buggy used alternately by Alonzo and Uly, or whoever's scouting ahead of the group.

The two-bulb torches they use are called lumalights. The bulbs can be moved individually to point in two directions at once - one is positioned on the top of the torch, one on the side.

The humans...or, depending on your point of view, the aliens.

Devon Adair
Photobucket
Devon is rich and sucessful on the Stations, but her determination to save her son has put her at odds with the ruling Council.

Ulysess Adair
Photobucket
Eight year old Uly chafes against the restrictions of his life, but he loves his mother and Yale very much and trusts them. When the Terrians save his life, he is afraid of how he seems to be changing.

John Danziger
Photobucket
Despite being a 'lowly' mechanic, Danziger is not afraid to stand up for himself. His daughter True is his highest priority. Danziger may have been in the Military at some point. He is the first to coin the nickname 'Diggers' for the Terrians.

True Danziger
Photobucket
Ten year old True is a trained mechanic who helps her father on his jobs. A strong willed child, she's fascinated by animals of any kind. True made friends with Gaal and was used in his plans, but was instrumental in helping the Terrians defeat him.
(Actor note: J Madison Wright died in 2006 at the age of twenty one from a heart defect.)

Yale
Photobucket
Yale was once a criminal, but as part of the YALE program his mind was reprogrammed to serve as a tutor. He is Devon's closest friend and advisor. His programming includes an aversion to violence; he is unable to harm another being or to use any form of weapon.

Alonzo Solace
Photobucket
Alonzo is a cold sleep veteran, having spent most of his life asleep on long runs. He's much older than he looks. An incurable flirt, Alonzo is the first member of Eden Advance to be contacted by the Terrians. He finds himself the point man when the group comes into contact with Terrians.

Julia Heller
Photobucket
Julia is a young intern on Devon's medical team. She's barely qualified, though her chromosomes have been skewed towards the medical sciences. Julia was planted in the group by the Council and is in contact with them within a few weeks of landing on the planet.

Bess Martin
Photobucket
Raised on Earth, Bess is Morgan's wife. As informal group morale officer, she'll often seek out anyone who is upset or hurt and try to help them through it. Bess wears a pendant given to her by her father, which holds the last wildflower on Earth.

Morgan Martin
Photobucket
Morgan was the government liason to the Eden project. A fussy little buracrat, he's not above lying to protect himself. He genuinely loves Bess, though he's constantly afraid she's going to leave him for another member of the group. Morgan was married before; he cheated on his wife and they split up after three months.

Broderick o'Neill
O'Neill serves as second in command on the project. A tough, no nonsense man, he takes a lot of the pressure off Devon's shoulders.

Non expedition

Gaal
The expedition found Gaal, apparently having been attacked by Terrians. He claimed to be a stranded astronaut and was invited to join the group. Later it was discovered that he was, in fact, a penal colonist. He had Commander O'Neill put to death by Grendlers and turned True against her father. When he enslaved a group of Terrians True and Eden Advance helped them to stop him. Gaal was captured by the Terrians and taken to face their justice.

Others

The aliens...or, depending on your point of view, the natives.

Terrians
The Terrians are the major life form encountered by the group. As of the first episode we know only that they somehow travel through the ground and that they have healed Uly in exchange for an unspecified favor to be redemmed at their pleasure. They claim to have met humans before and dislike them.
They communicate only with Alonzo and only on the Dream Plane.
Terrians are incapable of harming each other, a fact exploited by Gaal when he fashions a necklace from their bones to protect himself.

Grendlers
Grendlers are almost as tall as an average man but appear hunched over. They are vaguely reptilian looking. They're traders by nature and can understand a certain amount of English. They'll run off with anything they can get their hands on, but they're more of a nusiance than a real treat.

Koba
Koba are small, reptilian looking creatures. True befriends one soon after landing. When they feel threatened they can shoot their claws at people, causing almost instant death coma. People affected remain in a deep coma for an average of two days before waking up no worse for wear.
