Sorry it's been so long since the last one! Health issues.





Some kids are playing basketball, ignorant of the pipe cover nearby that keeps lifting and spewing out water. One of the kids, Lucien, misses the ball and is sent to get it. It's landed in the now uncovered pipe and is floating. Lucien picks his way over the very marshy ground and rescues it. Then he's grabbed by a thing.

The kids have found another ball and ignore his yells for help, even though one looks over and he's clearly in trouble. ( Nice friends, Lucien. )

Helen Cutter gets injured in the Cretaceous – those pterosaurs are nasty – and as part of her master plan...hurts herself worse?

Nick is playing DIY golf in his office – look, he's still a Professor! – when Claudia arrives to not!ask him about Helen. She's a little confused now, since Helen saved her life; she isn't quite sure what to think. Nick agrees that Helen is hard to read at the best of times.

( Claudia tells him that kissing on the job could be considered sexual harassment. )

'Anomalies are starting to appear –‘

I love the voiceover, though I never really understood the bit about the Anomalies being proof that the past exists. Surely the present is proof that the past exists?

Primeval is a British series about a government project investigating rips in space/time known as Anomalies. The Anomalies can open anywhere at any time, and often creatures come through from other time periods.

ALICE

Scenes [in square brackets] were not in the televised version I saw. These scenes are always only a couple of sentences long and were obviously cut for running time.


I like the credits – dancing Suits, card and roulette games, mixed with test tubes and bottles of coloured – stuff. It’s all very psychedelic and slightly unsettling.

The Church of Morgan


Morgan, in VR, is playing drums in a jazz band. He’s actually pretty good.

Julia narrates. On day 38, the group is 6800 kilometres from New Pacifica, and ‘so far from home it’s unimaginable.’ Bess is taking a bath. She watches Morgan in his VR while Julia muses on the different ways people are handling – or not handling – their loneliness. She considers hers to be the worst because she’s carrying a secret. ‘It’s like being afraid of the dark as a child,’ she tells us, ‘and then growing up to find the dark is real and it’s coming after you. And maybe it’s you.’ Grow a pair, Julia.

Helping to pack up camp, Uly’s attention is caught by a patch of ground. He kneels to examine it more closely. He pushes on the ground but his hand sinks straight in. Frightened, he calls for Devon, but by the time she arrives everything is normal. She hurries him off to do his chores.

Julia’s been watching. She tests the ground, but it’s quite firm.

This episode is out of order on the DVD, but according to online lists it is the next one.
